The Wedding Registry: A Guests’s Guide to Giving
What is the Wedding Registry All About?
A wedding registry is a carefully curated list of gifts chosen by the couple to help guests select presents that they genuinely want or need. Think of it as a wish list created by the couple, making it easier for guests to choose meaningful gifts. It’s like a personalized shopping guide that ensures your gift will be appreciated.
Is It Necessary to Follow the Registry?
While following the registry isn’t mandatory, it’s highly recommended. A wedding registry simplifies the gift-giving process for guests. It eliminates the guesswork and ensures that you’re giving a gift that aligns with the couple’s preferences and needs. Plus, it prevents the possibility of multiple guests giving the same gift, making your contribution unique and valuable.
How Does a Registry Work for Guests?
Using a wedding registry is a breeze. The couple typically selects a retailer or an online platform to host their registry. They then compile a list of items they’d love to receive. These items can vary widely, ranging from kitchen appliances to home decor, and even experiences like spa treatments or romantic dinners. Once the registry is set up, the couple shares the link with their guests, making it simple for you to browse and select a gift.
Is It Considered Rude to Use a Registry?
Not at all! Contrary to any misconceptions, using a wedding registry is a courteous and considerate choice. The couple has created the registry to assist their guests in selecting gifts that are meaningful to them. By using the registry, you’re respecting their wishes and making the gift-giving process more convenient for everyone involved.
What Should You Choose from the Registry?
When deciding what to choose from the registry, consider the couple’s needs and interests. Whether they’re setting up their first home or looking forward to memorable experiences together, the registry will offer a range of options. Selecting a gift from the registry ensures that your present is something the couple truly desires, making it a meaningful contribution to their journey.
In conclusion, a wedding registry is not only a practical tool for the couple but also a helpful guide for wedding guests. It ensures that your gift is thoughtful and aligns with the couple’s preferences. Using the registry simplifies the gift-giving process, allowing you to celebrate the couple’s special day with a heartfelt and appreciated gift.

Wedding registry etiquette; How to be smooth and classy about sharing your registry
By following these top tips of wedding registry etiquette, we’ll help you stay away from any gift related mistakes and help you build a beautiful wedding registry that truly works for you. We will help you with making communication with your guests easy and respectful to make sure that everyone has the best possible experience with us.
Q: Is it rude to have a wedding registry?
Absolutely not, wedding registries are gaining popularity all over Asia with India becoming one of the biggest markets for wedding registries. Even in Sri Lanka couples have been sharing “no boxed gifts” notes along with their invitations for years. Therefore, what may feel a little presumptuous to you is a huge relief for your guests.
We have made the entire experience seamless by providing them an easy online platform to browse through and select an item of your choosing. By making sure you register for items and experiences you need and would treasure for a lifetime would help your guests gift you something they know you would like and value to start your life as newlyweds.
Pro tip: ask for things that excite you and would reuse for years to come.
When starting your own wedding registry, always be sure to add a few items simply because you would love to have them. Special dinners with your love, or an experience such as a golf lesson or a luxury holiday that you might not indulge in for yourself. Feel free to add these “love to have” items on to your list along with your home necessities to make sure your registry experience is an absolute pleasure from start to finish. And if you are already sharing a home or going to live with your parents for some time, register for more experiences or a honeymoon fund full of amazing getaways!
Q: When should I register?
Its up to you really, but we recommend singing up with us as soon as you get engaged and take the time to curate a list of gifts you would truly love to receive. We would recommend making your list visible to guests as soon as you share your invitations out which is about 3 months prior to your wedding.
But incase you missed that deadline, its never too late! Sign up with us and spread the word on your registry through friends and family so that your guests can discover your registry and get you the gifts you would really love.
Pro tip: add enough gifts to add to your registry.
We think it’s best to add as many gifts from as many different price points as possible to give your guests a wide choice to choose from and to be respectful of everyone’s budget. While we don’t recommend only choosing the highest priced items on the list, our handy “pool-in” option gives your guests to opt to pool in or a higher priced item with their family or a group of friends so be sure to add those in too!
Q: Should we include wedding registry details on our invitations?
100% yes. Once you’ve decided on your registry items feel free to share it with your wedding guests. We have a handy list of options for your wedding registry right here. You can also add it to your wedding website if you are creating one. Spread the word! It’s perfectly acceptable wedding registry etiquette to include gift list information on your invites and wedding website.
Pro tip: involve your partner.
Remember this is a joint gift list, and the start of your lives together. Even though your partner may not be interested in glasses or kitchenware, he or she may enjoy the array of experiences and getaways we have on offer so include them in this and make it a fun date night of future planning.
Q: what if my family is uncomfortable with purchasing gifts online?
Well, we have a support team in place to assist anyone over the phone and will help them purchase the gifts in a way that is comfortable to them.
Pro Tip: Give our team a call, and we will guide you through the entire process, you can add a little note on your registry announcement and let your guests know we are happy help with their older guests by calling them and guiding them through the entire process.
Q: is it rude to ask for honeymoon contributions?
While we wouldn’t recommend asking for cash outright, a great way to bypass that is by including vouchers for the Silver Aisle honeymoon fund in partnership with classic travel. Its Sri Lanka’s one and only honeymoon fund catering to trips both within Sri Lanka and destinations around the world.
Pro tip: remember to thank your guests!
Well, we couldn’t write an article on wedding registry etiquette without talking about thank you notes! Be sure to share your appreciation with a handwritten note of thanks and show guests that you truly value their contribution to your happily ever after!
Asking for what you want is sometimes easier said than done and may be uncomfortable for most, but our team at Silver Aisle is here to guide you and provide you will all the information and guidance you need to feel happy and comfortable throughout this process.

The Wedding Edit: Dreamy Tablescapes
At the moment, we’re coveting an abundance of candles, whimsical florals, and textured, playful linen. Below is our round-up of the looks we love, that we think you will too.
Timeless

This monochromatic tablescape hits the sweet spot between exuding romance and elegance while remaining timeless. Visually, what creates interest is the cohesive colour story of complimentary hues of ivory, beige and cream and the varying levels in height. While the roses are undoubtably the star, the cleverality of the design requires only the strategic placement of the roses rather than an abundance of it, therefore being a little friendlier on the wallet––yay!
Sensual

If the thumbnail on this blog post didn’t give it away, this may be our absolute fave at the moment. Possibly because white-on-white has been overdone in the past few years, we’ve found ourselves craving warm, comforting tones. Together with the candles, the hues of deep purple and red create a sensual, warm, and slightly eclectic space.
Whimsical and Pastel

Pastels have been all the rage recently, and though it took us a minute to let go of our (unhealthy) obsession with white-on-beige, we get it now. The whimsical, easy on the eyes tablescape feels like a ray of sunshine on a cold spring morning. A note of caution though––what makes this tablescape stunning is that all the hues of pastel are relatively subdued. The pinks aren’t too pink, the yellows are mellow or deep––there is a cohesion amongst all the colours, with nothing be too vibrant.
Something Blue

Florals are pricy, we totally get it. The beauty photographed above is the perfect way of saving some $ while letting another element shine: gorgeously textured linens and glassware.
A drapey, dramatic chiffon running sprawling across the table does the same trick. Again, it’s all about selecting the perfect hue––we would always opt to stay subdued than overly vibrant.

One more for the road––in addition to creating interest through the linen, mismatched statement candles is as fun. And the best part? Rather than splurging on short-lived florals, linen and candles can always be rented! Yay again for saving some mula!

Dramatic

Finally, for an intimate reception where only a table of two is required, we’d go dramatic and be bold. A table adorned with endless florals, fauna fruits – a medieval style fiesta if you will, but with a chic modern day twist.

Birthdays
Nothing screams birthday love like pastel coloured, whimsical florals. A perfect occasion to have fun with colour and opt for an arrangement that are on the riskier side. My three top picks would be:
The Paloma––a one of a kind piece created using Boegen Villa. A flower endemic to our island yet rarely used in arrangements. It’s vibrant colours, soft texture, and stunning contrast with its Ratan base will be one to remember.
The Athena––a little friendlier on the wallet, Athena is bold yet soft in its pastel colours and is a winner for any occasion.
The Harper––my personal favourite to gift. While being both affordable and chic, the Harper is truly the gift that keeps giving. If taken care of well, the flowers will re-bloom and can remain a staple in your loved ones home for years to come (PS––it’s my grandmothers favourite gift to receive. She takes amazing care of her plant and it has since re-bloomed thrice).

A simple joyful bouquet of autumn hued blooms
Subtle yet stunning, this orchid can be delivered within the day
Condolences
For the occasions where words don’t suffice, select from our range of our condolences florals.
You will never go wrong with white florals––timeless, peaceful, and respectful.
For something more subdued:
However, we have had occasions where condolence florals similar to the ones below were gifted––vibrant, eclectic, and bold, chosen specifically by their loved ones to celebrate those who lived their lives on their own terms, drenched in colour and life.
